New mentions of defensive tail vibration behaviour in the Aesculapian snake Zamenis longissimus
Nouvelles mentions d'un comportement défensif de vibration de la queue chez la Couleuvre d'Esculape Zamenis longissimus
Résumé
During a monitoring session of snake populations in the Biological Reserve of Chizé (France), two cases of tail vibration were observed in one female and one male Zamenis longissimus on a total of 36 captures. These phenomenon were observed during a stressful moment for the snake (capture and handling), which leads us to believe that tail vibration could be a defense mechanism against predators.
