Le corps du fleuve : mobilités et stratégies sociales sur le Maroni
Résumé
Our article is dedicated to the study of the social function of a river in Western French Guiana in the mobility and cross-border migration of populations. The Maroni River located on the borderland of French Guiana and Suriname is the epicentre of constant movements between the towns of St.-Laurent-du-Maroni (in Guyana) and Albina (in Suriname). Marked by an exponential population growth, birth rate and a significant net migration as well as a strong impoverishment of the people, this region is also subject of political regulation which seems not to grasp the profound dynamism in terms of social organization, commercial transactions and the organization of the communities. We will therefore study this asymmetry between the realities of migration and of Biopolitic devices suffered by the populations of the Maroni River. This analysis through will then allow us to better understand the central River, perceived role as a border by the State French and lived as a hub of community relations for the people.
Notre article se consacre à l'étude du rôle social d'un fleuve de l'ouest guyanais dans les mobilités et migrations transfrontalières des populations. Le Maroni, bleuve situé à la frontière de la Guyane française et du Surinam, constitue l'épicentre de déplacements constants de populations entre les villes de Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni (en Guyane) et Albina (au Suriname). Marquée par une progression démographique exponentielle, un taux de natalité et un solde migratoire important ainsi qu'une forte paupérisation des populations, cette région apparaît également sujette à des formes de régulation politique qui semble ne pas saisir le profond dynamisme dans les modalités d'organisation sociale, les transactions commerciales ainsi que le fonctionnement des communautés. Nous étudierons donc cette dissymétrie entre les réalités migratoires vécues et les dispositifs de biopouvoir subis par les populations du Maroni. Ce biais d'analyse nous permettra ensuite de mieux saisir le rôle central du fleuve, perçu comme une frontière par l'Etat français et vécu comme un centre névralgique des relations intercommunautaires pour les populations.
